dc.descriptionThe main objective of this research is to identify the effect of language impairments on the development of reading skills by administering standardized tests to third-grade students at Padre Xavier Villanueva School. The study was conducted using a quantitative, cross-sectional approach. The research took place in a public school with both morning and afternoon shifts, including only third-grade classrooms. This resulted in a sample of 59 students distributed across three classrooms. The participants were evaluated through the application of two standardized tests: the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities (ITPA) and the Revised Battery for the Evaluation of Reading Processes (PROLEC-R), in order to demonstrate the potential effect of language difficulties on reading skills within the school context. The results revealed that 61% of the sample presented language impairments, and among them, 63% showed difficulties in reading skills. These findings establish a relationship between language impairments and reading abilities, which may be negatively affected and, in turn, impact students’ overall academic development.
dc.description.abstractEl principal objetivo de esta investigación es identificar el efecto de las alteraciones del lenguaje en el desarrollo de las habilidades lectoras mediante la aplicación de pruebas estandarizadas en niños de tercer grado de la escuela Padre Xavier Villanueva. El estudio se desarrolló bajo un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo transversal. Esta investigación fue realizada en una escuela oficial con el turno matutino y vespertino, incluyendo únicamente a los salones de tercer grado, de esta manera se obtuvo una muestra de 59 estudiantes distribuidos en tres salones, quienes fueron evaluados mediante la aplicación de dos pruebas estandarizas: Test Illinois de Aptitudes Psicolingüísticas (ITPA) y Batería de evaluación de Procesos Lectores Revisada (PROLEC-R) para evidenciar el efecto que pueden tener las dificultades del lenguaje sobre las habilidades lectoras en el ámbito escolar. Los resultados revelaron que el 61% de la muestra presentó alteraciones del lenguaje y dentro de estos, el 63% evidenció dificultades en las habilidades lectoras. Estos datos permiten establecer una relación entre las alteraciones del lenguaje y las habilidades lectoras, las cuales pueden verse afectadas, lo que a su vez impacta negativamente en el desarrollo académico de los estudiantes.
