Avocado (Persea americana) is a fruit of high nutritional and economic importance, but with a short shelf life due to its rapid ripening and susceptibility to microbiological damage. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of natural essential oils from Citrus latifolia in the form of nanoemulsions on the post-harvest preservation of Catalina variety avocados. The research design was experimental, with independent groups and no pretest. We worked with 108 fruits divided into four treatments: control (no coating), white coating (emulsifier only), 5 % nanoemulsion, and 10 % nanoemulsion of essential oil. The study was quasi-experimental, descriptive, comparative, and longitudinal, periodically measuring parameters such as weight loss, firmness, and pulp pH during ten days of storage. The results showed that the fruits treated with nanoemulsions retained their firmness better than the controls, maintaining values between 1.96 and 1.76 kgf on day 10, while the uncoated fruits reached levels of 0.09 kgf. Likewise, weight loss was significantly lower in the groups with nanoemulsions: the 10 % treatment showed a reduction of 5.3 %, compared to 9.56 % in the controls. . These findings confirm that the use of nanoemulsions of Citrus latifolia essential oils is an effective and natural strategy for extending the shelf life of avocados, providing benefits in both fruit quality and the reduction of post-harvest losses.
