dc.descriptionHoloprosencephaly is a congenital disorder that primarily affects brain development and occurs in the first weeks of gestation. The fetal brain fails to separate properly into its right and left hemispheres, affecting the fetus's head and face. The neurological condition these patients present with is associated with developmental delay, spasticity, and dystonia. It's important to emphasize that physical therapy plays a very important role, as various manual techniques can be used to perform assisted and passive mobilizations, stretching, and strengthening. Postural hygiene exercises and gait retraining can also be included. The main objective of this professional practice report is to provide rehabilitative treatment to children with holoprosencephaly treated at the Panamanian Institute of Special Education of Veraguas (IPHE).
dc.description.abstractLa holoprosencefalia es una enfermedad o trastorno congénito que afecta principalmente el desarrollo del cerebro y ocurre en las primeras semanas de gestación, donde el cerebro fetal no se separa correctamente en sus hemisferios derechos e izquierdo, afectando la cabeza y la cara del feto. Debido a la enfermedad neurológica que presentan estos pacientes se ve comprometido el retraso del desarrollo, la espasticidad y distonías. Es importante resaltar que la fisioterapia juega un papel muy importante ya que, por medio de diversas técnicas manuales, se puede realizar un abordaje fisioterapéutico mediante las movilizaciones activas, asistidas y pasivas; estiramientos y fortalecimientos; también se pueden incluir ejercicios de higiene postural y reeducación de la marcha. La realización de este informe de práctica profesional tiene como objetivo principal: brindar un tratamiento rehabilitador a los niños con holoprosencefalia atendidos en el Instituto Panameño de Habilitación Especial de Veraguas (IPHE).
