Visión al color en los estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas y Clínicas en la Universidad Especializada de las Américas en la ciudad de Panamá, evaluados de noviembre 2024 a enero 2025

| dc.description | Color vision is provided by the retinal cones, when there is a decrease or absence of the S, M or L cones this leads to a color vision deficiency. The deficiencies can be of congenital etiology due to genetic mutations or of acquired etiology due to the use of specific medications or diseases of ocular, systemic or neurological origin. Color vision is fundamental in daily life activities, education and in the professional field, that is why the main objective of this study is to evaluate the color vision of students of the Faculty of Medical and Clinical Sciences. The research was carried out with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative design. A population of 39% women and 61% men with a mean age of 20.88±2.68 was evaluated. Color vision was evaluated with the Farnsworth D-15 test and a result was found according to the interpretation of the qualitative and quantitative form that 100% of the students have normal color vision in both eyes. Concluding that the students of the Faculty of Medical and Clinical Sciences of the Universidad Especializada de las Américas central branch do not present color vision deficiencies. | |
| dc.description.abstract | La visión al color se da mediante los conos retinianos, cuando existe una disminución o ausencia de los conos S, M o L esto conlleva a una deficiencia de la visión del color. Las deficiencias pueden ser de etiología congénita debido a mutaciones genéticas o de etiología adquirida debido al uso de medicamentos en específicos o enfermedades de origen ocular, sistémica o neurológicas. La visión al color es fundamental en actividades de la vida cotidiana, educación y en el ámbito profesional es por ello por lo que es importante evaluar la visión al color de los estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas y Clínicas. La investigación se realizó con diseño no experimental de tipo transversal, descriptiva y cuantitativa. Se evaluó una población formada por un 39% de mujeres y 61% de hombres con una edad media de 20.88±2.68. La visión al color se evaluó con la prueba Farnsworth D-15 y se encontró un resultado de acuerdo a la interpretación de la forma cualitativa y cuantitativa de que el 100% de los estudiantes tiene una visión al color normal en ambos ojos. Concluyendo que los estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas y Clínicas de la Universidad Especializada de las Américas sede central no presentan deficiencias de la visión del color. | |
